Situation Analysis
The role of The Firm Public Relations & Marketing during the implosion of the Stardust Hotel and Casino was to emphasize and create a memorable event for the media that differed significantly from other implosions on the Las Vegas Strip.
While the Stardust’s rich history was promoted during the actual closing of the casino, the implosion event set the stage for Boyd Gaming Corp.’s new $4.4 billion mega resort, Echelon, to be built in the former casino’s location.
Execution
- Developed media pitches promoting the unique aspects of the implosion and detailing information about Echelon.
- Created speaking points for Boyd Gaming Corp. and Echelon executives to emphasize the future of Echelon and its role in Las Vegas tourism.
- Utilized relationships with local, regional and national media to promote attendance for and secure coverage about the implosion and Echelon.
- Provided on-site expertise to ensure a smooth flow of information to the media and invited guests.
Results
The Firm Public Relations & Marketing secured extensive feature stories and facilitated interviews for major print publications and television outlets that detailed the intricacies of implementing the implosion and promoted the future Echelon project. Working with Boyd Gaming Corp. and its affiliates, The Firm played a significant role in the success of the event—from media to overall execution.
(Note: The Echelon project is currently on hold.)
